Let say we have two switches SW1,SW2 which do not have dediacted VCP port, we therefore decided to use UPLINK port as VPC port.
Both switches have factory default config. Before we can connect them via VCP ports we must configure uplink port as VCP port.
We start with SW1:
SW1> request virtual-chassis vc-port set pic-slot 1
Above I did not specify any member id as we do not have one( remember this SW has factory defaults). So what value is assumed above?
SW2>request virtual-chassis vc-port set pic-slot 1
Thanks and have a nice weekend!!
It would be much more helpful to indicate which EX series switches you have and the version of Junos OS By default, uplink ports 2 and 3 on EX3300 switches are configured as VCPs.EX2200, EX2300, EX3300, and EX3400 switches do not have dedicated VCPs. You must always use the uplink ports on an EX2200, EX2300, EX3300, or EX3400 switch to connect the Virtual Chassis both within a wiring closet and across wiring closets. Uplink ports 2 and 3 are automatically configured as VCPs on EX3300 switches. All QFSP+ ports on EX3400 switches are configured as VCPs by default. No uplink ports on EX2200 or EX2300 switches are automatically configured as VCPs. You can configure SFP ports on EX2200 switches and SFP+ ports on EX2300s as VCPs.All the information on these links explains all you need:https://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/junos/topics/task/configuration/virtual-chassis-ex4200-uplink-vcp-cli.htmlhttps://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/junos/topics/task/configuration/virtual-chassis-ex2200-setting-vcp.html
