Switching

Hi,

We are creating a new POP and I have the option of getting EX4300-24T'sor EX3400-24T's. From the looks of it seems that the 4300 would be the clear choice. It seems that the 3400 is a bit newer and I just wanted to see if it had anything better such as a better CPU etc. I wont be using anything fancy on them. I just need basic layer 2 functionality such as vlans etc. and I must have dual PSU's.

The ex4300 is essentially double the capacity of the ex3400 and more high speed optic options.

The detailed specs both list dual core processors and the same ram but without mentioning which cpu is in the ex3400.  I don't see anything that would suggest the ex3400 would be a better choice between the two in hardware or specs.

EX3400 has low end ARM processor when compared to EX4300. However EX3400 can be used for normal Layer 2 Swithching purpose. EX3400 offers

1) Virtual chassis and

2) Can act as Satellite device for Junos Fusion with EX9200 as Aggregated device.

EX4300 device provides more options like,

1) Virtual chassis with Mixed platform i.e. with QFX5100.

2) It can be part of Virtual chassis Fabric as Leaf device.

3) Act as Satellite device in Junos Fusion environment.
