  • 1.  Interface with SFP not getting up

    Posted 10-20-2017 10:54

    Hello!

I have EX4600 (JUNOS 14.1X53-D27.3) and trying to connect ISP to OEM SFP which is inserted in interface 1 (ge-0/0/1). After insertion this interface is not showing in "show interface terse" and trying to issue command "show interface ge-0/0/1" resulting in error:

    > show interfaces ge-0/0/1
    error: device ge-0/0/1 not found

Switch reacts to SFP insertion with this log lines:

    Oct 21 01:37:35 KHQ-EX4600 fpc0 PORTDEV: OPTIC State changed for port: 0/0/1 - Presence: 1
Oct 21 01:37:35 KHQ-EX4600 fpc0 XCVR: Unit 1, Fibre channel transceiver plugged in without Fibre channel configuration!!

How i can get it used to work?

    Hi,
I think you are using wrong SFP.
What is the vendor of SFP you are using?

It's some No-Name SFP, not Juniper certified.

I think that type of sfp is not supported on ex4600.
    Can you try SFP, SFP+?
Also, you can try SFP configurator if have one.

Non-Juniper SFPs should be recognized is proper SFP.  Juniper does support non-certfied from Juniper optics.  Juniper does recommend having some number of Juniper certified as a "just in case" for testing or potential troubleshooting.

In his case a WDM SFP is not supported at all.

Sure, the type of that SFP (I mean WDM) is not supported.

    Hi,

your issue is wrong coding of the 1G SFP. It states to the EX4600 that it is an Fibre channel SFP which of obviously not supported on an ethernet switch.

Even that Juniper doesn't support the 3rd party optics I have used both CWDM, DWDM, bidi and other type of optics which Juniper doesn't officially sell - and they have worked every time, as long as the coding states the right optic type (speed and type ethernet).

But bottom line, you need another optic which has it's eeprom reporting back as a 1G ethernet SFP.
