  • 1.  MAC-IP Reservation DHCP Pool Assignment 802.1Q

    Hi Guys,

Please see below example config on SRX:

set groups NAMEOFGROUP routing-instances NAMEOFINSTANCE access address-assignment pool CLIENT-POOL family inet host NAMEOFHOST hardware-address XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
set groups NAMEOFGROUP routing-instances NAMEOFINSTANCE access address-assignment pool CLIENT-POOL family inet host NAMEOFHOST ip 192.168.1.20

The current DHCP scope for the purpose of this demo is 192.168.1.10-254.

My question is what happens when the device assigned that address disconnects from the network?

As the address is still in the scope will it be reassigned to another device or will it always be reserved as if it is out of the scope?

    Thanks!
    Ryan

    Hi Ryan,
I strongly believe that the system follows what's documented in Address-Assignment Pools for Subscriber Management - TechLibrary - Juniper Networks so that that address is "exclusively" used for the device with that mac-address and never by any other device.
