  • 1.  revenue ports on an srx1500

I'm looking for an answer to the question "what is a revenue port" and I can't find any definitive answer.  I understand that fxp0 ports are NOT revenue ports, but I haven't been able to find out whether all other ports are considered revenue ports or if they have to be physical ports.  This page lists all of the port types: https://www.juniper.net/documentation/_en_US/junos/topics/topic-map/router-interfaces-overview.html  but nowhere on this page does it indicate which ports are considered revenue ports.
For example, I understand that ge-0/0/0 is  a revenue port, but this this mean that ae0 is also a revenue port because one of its members is ge-0/0/0 (a revenue port)?
What about st0.x ports?  lt-x/x/x ports?

As a general term, revenue port is any port that carries non-management or non-control traffic. ae0.x and st0.x are interfaces, not ports but could be called revenue interfaces. Some people would further consider the definition of revenue ports to be restricted to those serving paying customers, which would therefore exclude  ports dedicated to backup networks or transit routing.

I'm not sure what you mean.  If I have an SRX with the following intefaces:
    ge-0/0/0.0
    xe-2/0/1.0
    et-3/0/0.0
    ae0.0
    st0.0

which of these interfaces can be used to transmit stream syslog off of the SRX?

    Hi,

All the port on srx1500 is revenue port except "MGT" port.

    Thanks

do MGT ports include HA ports?

HA ports are used control so they are not revenue.
Are you searching for anything specific?
For me, revenue ports are ports that carry your real business data/traffic and the reason you make revenue.

Yes, I want to know which of these ports can be used as the source of a syslog stream:
    ae0.0
    reth0.0
    st0.0
    lt-0/0/0.0

    Hi,

    advisable use ae0 or reth.

    Thanks

that doesn't really help because the route to the syslog sink is not via reth or ae interface...  if the traffic can't/shouldn't exit via st0 or lt interface, then I'll need to install a syslog proxy.

    Hi,

st0 is for tunnel. lt0 is for internal link usually for VR to VR.

You need to know your design first.

    Thanks

I know what my design is, the problem with that design is the term 'revenue ports' since the stream syslog documentation only says that the traffic can't exit an fxp0 port, but can only exit a revenue port, and google doesn't return any results for "define" juniper" "revenue port".
So, I inquired here, and I have several different defintions of 'revenue port'.
Also, I know that st0 ports are for virtual tunnels, i have a many of them.  I also know lt-0/0/0 is for inter-vr communication.  none of that matters if they aren't revenue ports or if the documentation is wrong by omission.
